February 27, 2016, Southaven Soccer Complex

Today was a bittersweet moment for family and friends as well as those long time members of DeSoto County Soccer Association, as together along with the City of Southaven, we dedicated the Memorial to the on and off the field accomplishments of Charles Alan (Charlie) Baldwin, Jr., affectionately known as “Chuck”, at the Southaven Soccer Complex. Representing the City of Southaven, The Honorable William Brooks, Alderman at Large. Speaking on behalf of DeSoto County Soccer Association, was current DCSA President, Brandon Thomas. Along with Mr. Thomas, representing family and friends in addition to Mississippi Soccer Association, one of DCSA’ Founding Fathers and current MSA, Head Referee, Mr. Tim Clements gave adorning words of his relationship with Chuck, as a coach, mentor and friend. Lifelong friend and team mate, Jeremy Clements spoke to onlookers about Chuck, and the impact he had on the lives of so many. Lastly, Charlie Baldwin, Sr. gave his families thanks and appreciation to the City of Southaven, DCSA and all of those that helped to make today a success. DCSA and DC Galaxy FC would like to thank on behalf of our Oraganization, Jeremy Clements, lee Woods, Heidi Burns and Nick Thompson in addition to many others for their hard work in putting together such a fitting tribute to one of the great stewards DeSotoCounty and the "Beautiful Game". To know Chuck, was simply to love him, always with a smile, always doing for his fellow man. He dedicated many years of his like as a player, referee and even coach within the community that we all call home. While this returns the heart ache created by his loss, it also provides us with great hope for the future as we see the impact that relationships have on our youth through the game of soccer. DCSA and DC Galaxy FC strives to continue to develop young men and young women of our community to be lifelong stewards of the place we call home, doing so while sharing the "Beautiful Game". All of those that knew him, want Chuck's memory to go on and on.
